Go Team! Can Cozy * Free Crochet Pattern *

I started writing patterns, simply because I would find a pattern online and realize quickly all the ways I would change it. So here is one of my first designs, for FREE! Football is a big deal around here -- the NDSU Bison are a fan favorite as well as UND Fighting Hawks Hockey. Have fun making your own "Go Team!" Can Cozy in whatever team colors you please!

“Go Team!” Can Cozy

What you’ll need:

* Worsted weight yarn (medium 4) -- you only need a small amount in 2 colors of your favorite team OR brown to make a “football”

* Size H (5.0 mm) hook

* Yarn or tapestry needle

* Measuring Tape

* Scissors

Dimensions: bottom circumference is about 2.5” in diameter. Finished cozy is approximately 4.25” tall. Use a can for reference if needed.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain; st(s) = stitches; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; BLO = back loop only; y/o = yarn over

Notes:

~ The chain at the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch

~ Start round in same stitch as your chain.

~ When changing colors, as you join, insert hook with green, y/o white, pull through, ch 1…this starts the white row.

~ Depending on the type of yarn I use, I may change the size of my hook, or alter the number of stitches in the base of the cozy to attain a 2.5" diameter.

PATTERN:

Round 1: Using green: Magic Ring, ch 2, dc 12 in ring, join sl st to dc, ch 1 (12)

Rnd 2: sc 2 in same dc as ch and each st around, join sl st to sc, ch 1 (24)

Rnd 3: hdc, [2 hdc in next, hdc in next], repeat [*] around, ch 1 (36)

This circle should measure approximately 2.5” in diameter.

Rnd 4: in BLO, sc around, join with sl st, ch 1 (36)

Rnd 5: hdc 7, hdc2tog, hdc 7, hdc2tog, hdc 7, hdc2tog, hdc 7, hdc2tog (32)

Rnd 6-7: hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 8: change to white, hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 9-10: change to green, hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 11: change to white, hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 12-13: change to green, hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 14: change to white, hdc around, ch 1 (32)

Rnd 15-16: change to green, hdc around, fasten off / weave in ends. (32)

** Fun idea: add an appliqué or an iron on of your sports logo or mascot!**
